The Name’s Ganaini, Youssef El Ganaini. *Bond Song plays*
Movie quotes can leave a long-lasting effect on both monkeys and humans in weird ways. Even if the film is decades old, we never seem to forget it. We keep mentioning it around friends when it fits the context and sometimes, it can be hilariously funny. For that reason, I’ve decided to revisit some of the most monkey-ish lines of dialogue ever spoken that have – ever since they were said – taken a place in our memory and why they did so!
“If you let my daughter go now, that’ll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don’t, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you.” – Taken, 2008
Liam Neeson just proved that there can’t be a more monkey-ish way to say this. However, the Internet reacted to that by making this line one of the greatest memes of all time.
“My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius, commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions and loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next” – Gladiator, 2000
Dropped this quote here just in case you needed an example for how to introduce yourself in an interview. By the way, much of the lines in this movie were improvised, proving that good dialogue can only sound good if it comes from an actor who embraces his character.
“I mean, funny like I’m a clown? I amuse you?” – Goodfellas, 1990
Just so you know you shouldn’t mess around with a mobster. Oh and by the way, the dialogue in this scene was not in the script, and it’s based on something Joe Pesci experienced. Joe Pesci and Martin Scorsese, the director of Goodfellas agreed to make this a surprise so that he captures the real reactions of the characters. The result is – in my banana opinion – one of the greatest scenes and quotes of all time!
“I am your father” – Star Wars VI: Return of the Jedi, 1983
One of the greatest 4 words of all time and probably the greatest shock to humanity like ever, Darth Vader couldn’t have done it better. If you’re a Star Wars fan, you’ll get what I am saying. I could probably write a whole book on what I felt when I first heard it. A real banana quote.
“Bond, James Bond” – Dr. No, 1962
The three-word-quote that made James Bond be the coolest guy ever, and that made any James Bond actor an instant legend actor. Thank you James Bond for existing and stealing our monkey girlfriends’ heart! We truly love/hate you.
“Why so serious?” – The Dark Knight, 2008
The most famous Joker Line that shaped the character of a perfect antagonist just had to be on the list. Couldn’t resist it.
Special: “Ana Baba Yala” – Tito, 2004
There’s no better way to end this by dropping the all-time-famous Khaled Saleh quote, the conversation-killer, the ultimate kasf gabha, and the list goes on forever.
The reason why such dialogue lines are so important is that they tell us a whole lot about the character just by one sentence (or several). The best example for this is the James Bond Quote. Ian Fleming, the author of the James Bond novels, could’ve just written it down like that: “Oh Hi! My name is James Bond. Pleasure to meet you, sir.” But he didn’t, as it would give us the false feeling about the character. This “Bond, James Bond” bold way of saying it conveys a whole other message about the character.
Well, as a movie monkey fan, researching famous dialogue was a real banana! “It had me at hello” – Jerry Maguire, 1996. Sorry, had to drop a last quote over here.
